my counselor learned to hypnotize people, and she tried to teach me. i rubbed her temple in an all dark room, and she counted backwards from 100 to 1 and if she got to one started all over again until shes messed up and skipped numbers without remembering. then i would ask her stuff. it didnt work for either of us thoguh. how can i actually hypnotize someone?

……more like power of suggestion, you can’t hypnotize someone, but you can make a person heed to your whim maybe by influence, or by coersion.
Get them to do yoga nidra relaxation. You can learn this, from a tape. This practice takes you into an altered state of consciousness.
The “secret” is to keep a calm, rhythmic tone in your voice, which becomes a focal point for the subjects attention. You have to start by giving easy, very logical suggestions. Then, you move on to more difficult tasks.
There are two theories on why subjects carry out a hypnotists suggestions.
1. Social Influence. It argues that powerful social influences produce the state of hypnosis. Our social environment can indeed have a huge effect on our behaviour and experiences.
2. Divided Consciousness. The theory that during hypnosis, our consciousness splits, so that one aspect of consciousness is not aware of the role other parts are playing. Ernest Hilgard argued that hypnosis is a more dramatic form of this division.
Most people are moderatley susceptible to hypnosis. About one tenth of all people make excellent subjects. And an equal number are very difficult to hypnotize.
A posthypnotic suggestion is a suggestion made during a hypnosis session, that the subject will carry out when no longer hypnotized.
