It’s time for a mythbusting lesson. Over the years their have been a lot of untrue and sometimes ridiculous hypnosis myths that have circulated around. We’re going to dispel a few of the common ones:
1. Hypnotizing people is bad and evil. This is not true, we are merely just communicating with the subconscious mind.
2. People might not wake up after being hypnotized. People are always aware of their environment and can choose when to react. Their subconscious mind will tell them when they are in danger.
3. You can control or brainwash someone while they are under hypnosis. Again, not true. You cannot force someone to do something which is against their morals.
4. I can hypnotize people, even when they don’t want to be. Not true. As we said earlier, their subconscious mind is aware of any danger and will choose whether or not you can hypnotize them.
5. Learning how to hypnotize takes years of hard work and study. False, all it takes is a little bit of practice. Obviously, if you want to become a master, that will take longer.
6. You have to watch out while your hypnotizing someone, that you don’t go into a trance yourself. Yet again, false. It is impossible to hypnotize people without going into a trance yourself.
7. If I go into trance, I can be made to do stupid things and not remember it after. This is similar to a point above, while you are in a trance you remain full alert of your surroundings.
