Firstly, you don’t ‘put’ a person into a trance, you help them to achieve a deep trance-like state by them-self [ almost impossible to do without their assistance ]. A trance is not harmful, we all enter trance-like states often [ when engrossed in a book or movie, for instance ]. They ‘come out’ of that state at your suggestion, or if the trance is broken by external or internal stimuli [ a loud noise, a pressing need to use the bathroom, etc. ]. What should you not do ?, ask them to confront emotions which are too painful, do anything against their will, or their inner core beliefs.
