I watched the same show, mythbusters, and actually, when they tested the subjects memories using an incident created, they found they had better recall of details using hypnosis. However, self hypnosis is different. When you get upset and count backwards, it’s a type of self hypnosis. You are concentrating on the counting rather than the person or situation annoying you. Positive visualization, I believe, is another form of self hypnosis. If you see things in your mind with a positive outcome, you can approach a situation with a better attitude and possibly a better out come. And deep breathing is another, the act of concentrating on your breathing techniques is calming, and can be quite relaxing.
some instants are longer than others. define yours. with practice it could take several minutes but could be done by some people in as little as 10 seconds. If given a proper suggestion it would require that you take a deep breath exhale and touch your forehead with your index finger. it takes longer to type it than it takes to do it. Consult a professional hypnotist it will happen , buy a book and it might happen in a year or two.
